Not So Savvy—Waterproof Mascara

Hamptons

24/Savvy Beauty: The Hamptons, New York

So, my savvy sister from Seattle had the awesome idea to give Dior Mascara as a Christmas present this past year to all us gals in the family. As the Dior brand speaks for itself in terms of extravagance I was thrilled with the idea and the gift!

Fast forward to my first Summit Meeting at the corporate offices of one of our top clients, the super savvy Urban Outfitters! There I was, appropriately donned in my Urban finery and applying the finishing touches of my extravagant Dior mascara when disaster struck! As instructed by my other sister on the finer points of applying mascara, I dutifully coated my lashes starting at the lash line and zigzagging forward to ensure optimum coverage with the added benefit of creating a soft, fine line at the base of the lash.

For some reason though, what should have been a soft fine line at the base of my lashes turned out instead to be brush lines, thus giving the appearance of individual smudged dashes lining up across my lash line. To complicate matters we were running late (of course), and try as I might to smooth and smudge the dastardly dashes, they remained intact and unmoved.

Apparently waterproof mascara will do that.

So, in spite of my super savvy Urban finery I was the object of more than one startled glance at my eye lids. Not too savvy at all.

The moral of the story? Every extravagance has a price.

I'm not so sure this is about extravagance or the "waterproof" effect... LOL.

I've heard of people accidentally poking themselves in the whites of their eyes and leaving a permanent black mark there (kind of like a tattoo). How horrible would that be?!

Oh no...It happens to the best of us.

That is HORRIBLE! Is this a Dior thing or a Waterproof thing?!?!

I have learned not to try anything fancy in terms of mascara application - I curl the lashes, swipe on the mascara and do another curl. The waterproof stuff scares me - I used it once, COULD NOT get it off.

That's something you can have nightmares about.

"One step forward, two steps back", kind of day! But seriously, a little dab of glycerine or eye make-up remover on a q-tip will do the trick. (any drug store).

I can't seem to do the curler thing. With my asian heritage I am lucky to have lashes and brows at all, I have to invent bottom lashes, the tops are there, just so short. Is there a mascara that lets you apply to lengthen then curl?

I'm sure people didn't notice as much as you thought they did.
