Education Matters for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Why So Savvy: There's no shortage of ways the B&MGF is working wonders in the world, but one of their least high-profile efforts that we firmly stand behind is simply to reduce the student/teacher ratio in America's public schools. Studies have shown that smaller student/teacher ratios and accordingly, smaller schools have a direct effect on reducing illiteracy and improving student performance and with $250 million in grants currently invested in America's public schools, the B&MGF—the largest privately owned and operated foundation in the world— is slowly chipping away at one of our country's most alarming education-related problems: overcrowded classrooms and overworked teachers.
