What's Your Charity Experience?

My charity is Sleeping Children Around the World. Basically one purchases a bed kit from www.SCAW.org for $35. Canadian Dollars. Often these bed kits are donated to a birthday of someone special, or in memory of someone. SCAW gives 100% of the donated money to produce bed kits in the country where they are distributed. I have been a travelling volunteer which means I helped distribute 8000 bed kits in Bangladesh in October 2008 and 6000 bed kits in the Philippines in May 2010. I assume all travelling costs. A bed kit consists of 20 different items.... a bed roll or mattress, often a mosquito net, a pillow, blanket, 2 sets of new clothes, backpack and or school supplies (not in Bangladesh since it's too expensive for them to import), thongs (some kind of foot ware as they mostly are barefoot when they come)and a canteen for water. On distribution day, about 600 children...

To bridge the inequalities in society through education.   Make A Difference was conceived in 2006 by a group of college students. After having visited a poor home, they came to the realization that under-privileged children lost out on life, not because they were incapable, but because they were not given the basic requirements to succeed: Education. Meanwhile, the founders also identified Educated Youth as a means to the end. The educated youth force of the country have always been willing to help out with a good cause, but they never quite knew how. MAD put the two together. The youth force teaching the under privileged children necessary life skills that’d help these kids have better future prospects.
