If the thought of going into debt for holiday gift giving makes your blood run cold and sends shivers up and down your spine in terror, you're not alone.  It's a pastime that, love it or hate it, gets otherwise sane people to whip out their credit cards, charge away, overspend and load up on gifts to pass around on Christmas, Kwanzaa or Hanukkah morns all in the name of holiday cheer.  If you don't have a lot of money, the holidays can be extremely stressful and even a depressing time.

Here at Savvy Central, we love to participate in the exchanging of gifts, but we could do without the stress, financial strain and depression, so we decided to put together a gift guide of the gentler variety, including homemade gifts everyone will love.  So sit back, relax, and check back often for new ideas.  This week? Homemade gifts everyone will love.

  1. Necktie Statement Necklace.  It's one of those "where did you get THAT?" masterpieces every savvy girl will love.
  2. Art Cable Hanger.  Everyone needs a place to show off Wee Savvies' early masterpieces. Even if you don't have a Wee Savvy, you can spruce up a blank wall at home with a sophisticated version.
  3. Beautifully Packaged Homemade Goodies. It's all about presentation to make tasty holiday treats a unique gift.  You can source cute, reusable vintage tins, stylish boxes and ribbons and fill them with homemade goodies such as easy chocolate truffles the whole family will love or do something unusual like baked banana bread in a jar or layer ingredients in a jar for your giftee to make themselves.
  4. Beautiful Notepads out of Throwaway Paper.  Something lovely to sit by the phone for all those details that need jotting down.
  5. CD Coasters.  Cover the backs of old cds with gorgeous contact paper or stylish wallpaper remnants to create funky sets of CD coasters
  6. Mirror Chalkboards. These make gorgeous accent pieces for offices, kitchens and craft rooms.  We made ours from a thrift store find.
  7. Homemade Spa ProductsRoom sprays, sugar scrubs, eucalyptus shower steamers, homemade soaps, lip balms alone or in a gift set, these are a fab gift for every savvy girl, just find some cute bottles, jars or ribbons, because as we all know...it's all about packaging!
  8. Oilcloth placemats in holiday hues are so easy, you can whip up a batch while watching the Charlie Brown's Christmas special.
  9. Upgraded Mixed CDs.  Themed music, prettily packaged can make a nifty, frugal gifty.
