MIY: Party/Wedding Photo Backdrop

Friends, I  don't know about you, but party season has arrived at 24/Savvy Headquarters and is about to head into full swing.  We've got weddings, showers (baby and bridal), bar mitzvahs, and birthday parties (kids and adults) up the wazoo and not a whole lot of scheckles to spend planning them.  The good news is, savvy girls know that you don't have to spend a ton of money to create a memorable event and have a wonderful time--and really, that is the point.

One of our favorite inexpensive party ideas is to make a photo backdrop. You can do this with any type of material and it works great for both kids and adults.  We love the look of printed sheets, vintage fabrics, even if you want to go simple, you could use a plain colored sheet.  Just tack it up on the wall, place your guests about a foot or two in front of it, so wrinkles and creases aren’t visible.

Party Photo Backdrop Ideas:

  • Vintage fabrics
  • Printed sheets
  • Chalk paint -- you can paint right on the glass of an old poster frame and let your guests write messages on them.
  • Lace backdrop--this one from Martha Stewart Weddings is gorgeous, you can print it at your local Kinkos.  If you or someone you know is handy with Photoshop, you can change the color very easily with the color replace tool.
  • Props--particularly with children's parties, red clown noses, feather boas, hats, funny glasses are a wonderful way to make a whole event out of the photo experience.  (Frankly, a lot of adults would love this too).
