Mile High Beauty Club

Mile High Beauty Club

Cramped quarters, coffee/soda/tea, prepackaged, unhealthy food and constant recirculated air. All common during travel and all things that can wreak havoc on your skin, your strongest defense shield and biggest organ (even though some of our gentleman readers would like to believe it's the second biggest). While you can't necessarily avoid these pesky attackers, you can protect against them for a fraction of the cost of a spa visit!

A few things to pick up before you travel: an empty spritzer (3oz. or less), and empty dropper (3oz. or less), a small bottle of organic jojoba oil, and a small vial of lavender essential oil. Also, a few packets of white sugar. You can snag these at any coffee shop or restaurant.

FIRST THING: hydrate. Forgo the caffeinated, sugar filled drinks. Instead, drink water. Plenty of it. It's free on the flight (and who doesn't love free?) If you're worried about constantly bugging the flight attendant, a great accessory to carry with you is a collapsible, BPA-free water bottle. You can fill it up at any water fountain before boarding the flight. Remember not to fill it up before going through security!

SECOND THING: hydrate (again.) Put about 10 drops of the jojoba oil and 2 drops of the lavender oil into the spritzer, then fill up the bottle with spring water. Shake, shake, shake señora (or señor) and spritz yourself during the flight whenever you're feeling a little dry. After you've spritzed, lightly massage your face to keep the blood flowing and your skin breathing.

Health Fact: Jojoba is one of the closest substances on earth to the natural oils your skin produce that prevent from dehydration. It's incredibly protective, but since it's structurally a wax and not an oil, it's easily absorbed and won't leave a heavy, oily residue. Also, lavender is naturally antibacterial, an antioxidant, and also VERY calming for your skin (and your nerves thanks to it's calming aromatherapy effects.)

THIRD THING: repair. Remember that dropper bottle? Before leaving on your trip, fill it up with jojoba oil.  After you've arrived at your destination, rinse your face with with warm water. Mix together one of the sugar packets and about a quarter's size worth of jojoba oil in your palm, then use the mixture as an easy, gentle exfoliator on your face. Cleanse and moisturize as you normally would.

Congratulations! You've joined the Mile High Beauty Club. Go forth with glowing, happy, savvy skin.
