Autumn Equinox

Autumn Equinox

Today is the Autumn Equinox and we can’t be more excited! Some of our favorite things happen in fall, including the colorful changing leaves that come with it. Even better is that seeing all of the reds, oranges and yellows in the foliage is super savvy. Here’s why:

  1. Since infancy, strong and sudden contrasting sensory experiences serve as a signal of a meaningful experience. The stark contrasting colors in autumnal foliage, as well as the sudden change from summer green to fall reds, oranges, and yellows have the same effect.

  2. Taking a stroll to view the pretty leaves and enjoy the pleasant weather can be an effective stress reliever.

  3. Seeing the changing of leaves can evoke memories of pleasant past experiences. As a child, Fall can be associated with reconnecting with friends returning to school, trick-or-treating, sipping on hot apple cider, etc. These happy memories can trigger a peaceful mindset.

  4. In our post Savvy Hour Sunset, we discussed how awe-inspiring views can make people “feel like they had more time available and made them more patient, less materialistic, and more willing to volunteer time to help others.” Seeing the beauty of Autumn leaves can have the same effect.

So we think you should take some time this season to appreciate the beauty the season has to offer 🍂. Let us know if you do and how it made you feel in the comments below!
