Jun 18 Good Moods Only!

It’s that time of year again - beach time! We love beach fashion, and nothing is savvier than being able to transition from the surf to the streets flawlessly. One thing we avoid for our beachwear and streetwear is fast fashion. You may have heard of that term on social media, but what exactly is fast fashion? According to Good On You, fast fashion can be defined as “cheap, trendy clothing that samples ideas from the catwalk or celebrity culture and turns them into garments in high street stores at breakneck speed to meet consumer demand.” Basically, fast fashion is rapidly mass produced trends at low cost for high profit, usually by large organizations. This practice is one of the main reasons the fashion industry is a leader in pollution today.

The question becomes then - what is a savvy alternative to fast fashion? One of the many great things about beach communities are the local clothing boutiques you can usually find. Often, these boutiques are independently owned and run, as well as their goods and products being handmade. Who wouldn’t prefer a one-of-a-kind piece over an outfit that you might be seen in at the same time as somebody else (*shudder*)? Recently in Tulum, Mexico, we came across one such place called Good Mood, a jewelry and concept store whose items are all handmade. The owner was so friendly, and she had styles for everyone! Another great thing about local boutiques is they know the vibe of the area, and their clothing reflects that. For example, all of the outfits pictured here by Good Moods are vibrant, colorful, flowy, and breezy, just like Tulum! When we wear them we feel like we are part of the city.
