DIY Holiday Decorating Tips and Tricks

DIY Holiday Decorating Tips and Tricks

It's the festive season, and what better way to get into the holiday spirit than to decorate your home? Especially that the colder weather means more time inside, making your space cozy and homey is savvy because it can give you the serotonin boost you may need to help combat that seasonal depression lurking around the corner. However, you don’t have to dig deep into the pockets to make that happen. In fact, we’d rather put our budget toward other things (think: travel), than to holiday decor. That’s why we are sharing our favorite savvy DIY ways to spice up your space without breaking the bank. Check them out below!

DIY Candles - By repurposing old candle wax and glass jars you have lying around your home and adding your favorite essential oils you have on hand, DIY holiday candles are a great way to brighten your home and fill it with fragrances of the season without having to spend a dime. You can watch how we made ours on a Facebook Live session here! However, if you don’t have these materials readily available, you can easily purchase them at a lower cost than many manufactured candles that are offered in retail stores.

Candy Cane Garland - This genius idea by Frosting And A Smile will literally only set you back about $20 or less - the price of a large box of mini candy canes. It is super easy as well and adds a festive touch to any display around the house, whether that be around a tree or over a fireplace mantle. The hardest thing about this is resisting eating what you make!

Popsicle Stick Snowflakes - Time to plug in that glue gun! These cute snowflakes shown on A Girl And A Glue Gun are easy and fun to make. They are also versatile. You can hang them from the ceiling with string or stick them on your windows for a display passersby can enjoy as well. Even better, no one snowflake is the same, so you can have fun creating different shapes and sizes.

Plastic Spoon Winter Forest Trees - Now we don’t suggest going out and purchasing plastic spoons for this because we want to avoid purchasing single use plastic. However, what would be savvy is reusing existing plastic spoons you may have and turn it into something pretty that won’t end up in the landfill! That’s why we love this tutorial by One Project Closer. We think these trees will make for great centerpieces if you are hosting a holiday dinner party.

Holiday Card Tree - Do you get sent a lot of cards from loved ones during this season and want to display them but don’t know how? You can easily arrange them in the shape of a festive tree on your wall as a simple yet effective home decoration. OR if you’re like us, you might hoard all cards over the years in a shoebox never to be seen again. Well this is a way to go back through those old cards and dust them off. It’s also a great way to remember old memories that are sure to make you feel merry and bright.
